Q: What is Prep Licensing?

A:  Prep Licensing is a company providing licensing programs for high schools and organizations. Schools receive revenue from the retail sale of merchandise that features your school name, marks, logos or mascot.


Q: Why participate in the Prep Licensing program?

A:  According to major retailers the fastest-growing segment in licensed product is the high school market. Prep Licensing gives schools the ability to benefit from these sales.

Q: How much does it cost a high school to participate in the program?

A:  It’s FREE.


Q: What is the time requirement for the high school?

A:  None. All you need to do is signup. Prep Licensing will handle all implementation and execution of the program.


Q: Who pays the merchandising revenue?

A:  The manufacturer of the product pays a merchandising revenue that is a percentage of the wholesale price.


Q: What is the merchandising revenue rate?

A:  The merchandising revenue rate is 10 percent.


Q: What portion of the sale does the school receive?

A:  The high school receives 50 percent of the merchandising revenue payment.


Q: How often will I receive a merchandising revenue check?

A:  Quarterly.


Q: How do we track merchandising revenue payments?

A:  Prep Licensing provides a real time web-based reporting service and will track, monitor, and report merchandising revenue of each licensee on behalf of the high school.


Q: How do you determine a product is licensed and generating revenue for the high school?

A:  A hangtag is placed on each product indicating that it is an "Officially Licensed High School Product".


Q: How will this program affect my booster club?

A:  You can choose to exempt certain groups from the licensing program for fundraising efforts. However, the licensed product will generate additional proceeds from the merchandising revenue paid by the manufacturer.


Q: Can we stop a retailer from selling unlicensed products with our school name?

A:  Yes, and you can start by participating in the program. Our goal is to place “licensed” product at retail outlets to generate merchandising revenue for high schools. We will work with retailers to “enforce” the sale of "licensed" product from participating schools.


Q: How do we know that our products will be made with fair labor practices?

A:  All vendors and manufacturers are required to follow and enforce the standards of the Fair Labor Association.


Q: How do we ensure that our products are safe to consumers?

A:  Prep Licensing is dedicated to offering safe products. All manufacturers are required to provide product liability insurance.
